Say Good Night to Restless Sleep & Chronic Exhaustion

If you have or suspect that you suffer from sleep apnea, our award-winning, compassionate orthodontist has the experience to help you get back on the road to more restful sleep and better health. Although it is considered a serious condition, our sleep apnea treatment in Salisbury and Easton, MD is relatively easy to incorporate into your nighttime routine.

Sleep Apnea Symptoms

Sleep apnea is a serious sleeping disorder that causes you to stop breathing temporarily during the night. This typically happens because of the way that your throat muscles relax while you’re asleep.

Since the condition occurs while you’re sleeping, you may not even be aware that you suffer from sleep apnea. However, If you discover that you snore heavily, wake up with a choking sensation, or experience heartburn, then you may be dealing with sleep apnea. In addition, if you wake after a full night’s sleep but still feel tired or exhausted, you may have sleep apnea.

Oral sleep appliances are similar to a nightguard and are worn at night while sleeping. They reposition the jaw forward to keep your airway open for a restful night’s sleep. Our oral appliance therapy (OAT) can be beneficial for chronic snorers and individuals diagnosed with mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and are intolerable to a CPAP machine.

The Brace Place recommends the Herbst® Sleep Appliance, a small acrylic device that fits over the upper and lower teeth and tongue (similar to an orthodontic retainer or mouth guard). The device slightly advances the lower jaw or tongue, which moves the base of the tongue forward and opens the airway. This improves breathing and reduces snoring and sleep apnea.

Oral Appliance Features

Oral appliances are comfortable and easy to wear. Most people find that it only takes a couple of weeks to become acclimated to wearing the appliance.
Oral appliances are small and convenient making them easy to carry when traveling.
Treatment with oral appliances is reversible and non-invasive.

Courteous and knowledgeable staff. The new, up to date equipment made getting images and models a breeze. Appliance for sleep apnea should be ready in 4 weeks.
